Artist, Jeremy Marquis, was born and raised in the Clinton, Iowa area. He received a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art from Iowa State University in 2003. It was in college that Jeremy found acrylic painting to be the main media used for his artistic expression.

The abstract expressionists of the 1950's were a huge influence in the development of his painting style. He painted abstract paintings for many years after college, constantly looking to further develop his own style, recognizable imagery started to show up within the abstract paintings. Drawing from many other sources of the vast history of great artists, a recognizable style has emerged in the last couple of years.

Most recent paintings focus on a sort of expressionistic figurative style, incorporating text as contrasting mark making. The text is a stream of consciousness purge onto the blank canvas in the beginning and then added throughout the layering process the paintings go through. In the end the text adds a unifying feature that also causes the viewer's eye to wander the canvas trying to decipher the messages.

Other sources of inspiration as of late is nostalgia of pre-internet world. And as always, music is one of the biggest inspirations for all of his paintings.
